I'm a student studying Computer Science at the University of Toronto. I hope to pursue a career where I am able to combine my studies of computers with my interest in visual art. I have been developing web sites as a self-taught hobby for 4-5 years. In the last 2 years, however, I took visual arts and Java programming in school stimutanelously. What I learned in the classroom, I was able to extend and apply in the context of design and development.
In the past year, I've come to value colour a great deal. Colour, even the lack of it (as in black and white photography) adds character and credibility. I love how the same design concept can be revolutionalized under a different palette. When used correctly, it's almost as effective as the subject matter itself in delivering a message; electrifying violet can manipulate us to feel apprehensive whereas sherbert yellow can leave a sweet taste in our mouths.
Signed by V was created as a learning experience, as a way of expanding my portfolio and as a way of getting my foot inside the industry as an aspiring designer/programmer. It is my visionary playground.
The name Signed by V incorporates "signed", as a anagram of "design", with the first initial of my name to imply Veronica's designs. They contain my signature in the sense that my style is carried over to each project. Aside from the personal implications, "V" leaves the name somewhat openended. The ambiguity allows the audience to give it a meaning of their own.
I like to toy with the idea of "Signed by Vision" and "Signed by Vivere", where "vivere" is the latin word for "life". A website that is designed by life draw its inspiration from our daily existence.
